Students in the Hubbard Lab work across laboratory, field, and Extension settings to answer practical questions in urban and One Health entomology. They build experience in experimental design, arthropod biology, behavioral assays, field research, data analysis, scientific communication, and Extension.

Dr. Hubbard studies why pest management tools succeed or fail and how they can be improved for practical use. His work integrates insect behavior, genetic and genomic approaches, bioassays, field research, animal response, and Extension across urban and One Health systems.

Alexis N. Olmos
Undergraduate Researcher
Alexis will graduate in Fall 2026 with a B.S. in Agricultural Biology, Entomology Concentration, and a minor in Horticulture from NMSU. She will begin a Ph.D. with the Hubbard Lab in Spring 2027.
Alexis has developed broad research experience through work in the Weeds Lab, Agricultural Entomology Lab, NMDA Entomology Lab, and the Hubbard Lab. She has also held leadership roles in the NMSU Entomology Club, Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority, and Horticulture Forum.
Warrick Dane Nowell

Warrick developed his interest in entomology through 4-H and FFA, where he competed at state and national levels. As a sophomore, he is building experience in laboratory and field research in the Hubbard Lab.
Hank R. Hutcheson
Undergraduate STEM Fellows Mentee, Sophomore
Hank's interest in entomology grew through the National FFA Entomology Contest. In the Hubbard Lab, he is expanding his laboratory and field experience while preparing for a career in entomology. He presented research on pupal parasitoids and secondary screwworm at NMSU's 2026 Undergraduate Research and Creative Arts Symposium.

Isha completed her M.S. in Agricultural Biology at New Mexico State University in 2025. She is now at the University of Florida, working with Dr. Johnalyn Gordon. Her study of Turkestan cockroach development and morphometrics has been accepted for publication.
